Celebrity Beyond arrives at the Port of Southampton on Thursday 21 April
Associated British Ports (ABP)’s Port of Southampton has today welcomed the first call from Celebrity Beyond, the newest ship in Celebrity Cruises' fleet, as she prepares to welcome her first passengers.
Celebrity Beyond will be commissioned for shore power during this maiden call. Last week the Port of Southampton became the first port in the country to launch a shore power facility for cruise ships.
Helmed by Captain Kate McCue, America's first female cruise ship captain, Celebrity Beyond is the third ship in Celebrity Cruises' Edge series and the largest in the Celebrity fleet.
Earlier this week, Celebrity Beyond left the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, on her way to Southampton. On her 27 April maiden voyage, she will sail to Bordeaux, Lisbon, Seville, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and finally Barcelona, where she will be based this summer, running a number of Mediterranean itineraries before heading to the Caribbean in the autumn.
As well as pools, a solarium, theatre, casino and an abundance of outdoor dining spaces, the ship has a number of standout features, including 'The Magic Carpet', a cantilevered floating platform reaching 13 storeys above sea level.
