The ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon and 5k 2022 welcomed over 1200 runners to the fantastic seaside resort of Cleethorpes on Sunday. The event was back in full, raising funds for Cleethorpes RNLI and many other local and national charities, following two years of COVID restrictions.

Paying tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, race organisers, Tape2Tape, held a one-minute silence followed by the National Anthem led by singer Becky Swift, at the start of the event.

Runners from across the country gathered at the start line for the Half Marathon and 5k, each of them ready to undertake their challenge, with many running in aid of charity.

To inspire the next generation of runners, the St Hugh’s Hospital Family Fun Run also set off one mile from the finish line.

As runners made their way around the course, they were joined by Race Makers, volunteer marshals, who clapped and shared words of encouragement. The Humber Taiko Drummers, Cleethorpes Brass Band and North East Lincolnshire Steel Pans, all played live during the event to lift spirits.

Conditions on the day remained fair with no rain, but a little wind towards the end of the race required runners to dig deep as they made their way to the finish line.

Nicola and Neil Pattison, Tape2Tape Race Directors, said:

“We were very moved by the total silence at the start for the tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, this followed with a fantastic day for all race participants, volunteers and the many spectators who cheered the runners on. We love what we do for the community and none of this would be possible without the support of ABP Humber. We are excited to be back next year for a Half Marathon and 10k on the 17th of September.”

Associated British Ports (ABP) were the Headline Sponsor for the event.

ABP Humber Director, Simon Bird, said:

“Congratulations to everyone who took part in the ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon and 5k, and our thanks to all those who volunteered their time to support this great community event.”

If you feel inspired to take on this amazing running challenge next year, Tape2Tape have an Early Bird offer available until the 30th September. Find out more here - https://www.resultsbase.net/event/6457
