Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s leading ports group, has signed a new sponsorship deal to support the Barrow Raiders Women’s Team. Women’s rugby is one of the fastest growing team sports with more and more role models emerging.

ABP’s Port of Barrow-in-Furness is proud to support the Barrow Ladies team, which was formed in 2016. The team has since proven it is a force to be reckoned with: after celebrating five strong seasons, in 2021 the ladies’ team finished second in their league and got promoted to the Women’s Super League.

Brad Crumbleholme, Port Manager and Head of Asset Management at ABP said:

“These ladies are strong role models for Barrow and ABP is really proud to be associated with the club which is encouraging women and girls into the sport. We wish the players the very best for the forthcoming season and will be cheering from the side lines.”

Rebekah Thompson of Barrow Raiders Ladies said:

"Barrow Raiders Ladies are going from strength to strength. We have an excellent group of very talented women and recently integrated into Craven Park. This has allowed for increased crowds and increased visibility of the sport. We hope that this will help inspire more girls and support from our sponsors helps continue to grow the women's game.”

The Port of Barrow plays a key role in serving the offshore energy industry in the region and is the site of BAE Systems' submarine design and manufacturing facility.
