ABP Humber is pleased to announce the completion of a new lease to the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, which has taken on the first floor of the Grimsby Port Office for the next five years.

The Grimsby Port Office is a Grade II listed building set in the heart of Grimsby. It is known for its fabulous architecture and a landmark for the area. Alongside the Grimsby Dock Tower, a Grade I* listed building, it has a model version at LEGOLAND.

The Port of Grimsby’s regeneration has seen a huge increase in renewable energy businesses flocking to the area, including the largest operations and maintenance site for offshore wind in the world.

ORE Catapult is leading the development of a national Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Centre of Excellence for offshore renewables. The centre will engage with all UK offshore renewable energy clusters, academia and government to focus on innovation and development of best practice – demonstrating the UK’s capability to remain the global leader in offshore renewables O&M.

Simon Bird, Regional Director at ABP Humber, said: ‘This is a great announcement for both for ABP and  Grimsby more widely. The building has stood proudly for 135 years as a landmark for the area and is moving to an exciting new phase of its life. The Port of Grimsby has seen industries  change, from fishing to the new sectors of renewable energy and automotives which are growing from strength to strength. We welcome ORE Catapult to the building in the heart of the burgeoning offshore wind business.’

"We’re very excited to be building our presence in Grimsby, the largest offshore wind operations and maintenance port in the country – and to be based in the instantly recognisable ABP Port Office is ideal." Ben George ORE Catapult’s General Manager for the Humber,

Ben George, ORE Catapult’s General Manager for the Humber, said: “The O&M of offshore renewable energy plant represents a huge opportunity for the UK, and this move allows us to work more closely with the industry, jointly developing the innovation that will keep the UK at the cutting edge of this rapidly growing sector. We look forward to collaborating with ABP in the coming years to grow Grimsby’s already world-leading position in delivering our low-carbon energy future”.

ORE Catapult chose the Grimsby Port Office due to its strategic location, and will refurbish it over the coming months prior to moving in when circumstances permit.
