On Thursday 6 June ABP Southampton Pilot Phil Ratcliffe will join a team of 11 cyclists to take part in a 500-mile cycle ride to raise funds for ABP Southampton’s Charity of the year, Different Strokes Southampton.
The team will begin their cycling challenge on the anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy and will then cycle to the Black Forest in Germany.Team organiser Julian Howell will be joining Phil to raise funds for Different Strokes Southampton.
The charity means a lot to each of them as both have seen friends suffer from strokes and appreciate the excellent work Different Strokes do to help with the rehabilitation of stroke survivors.
The team will cycle around 85-miles every day and are hoping to complete the grueling cycling challenge within six days.
Phil said: “We’re all feeling ready now, and we’re looking forward to the challenge we have set ourselves to support these great charities; many of which are close to our hearts for personal reasons.We feel overwhelmed by the kind support and generosity that’s been shown so far.
During the challenge we will also be remembering those who 75 years ago gave so much so that we could have the freedom that we have today. This incredible display of bravery and determination will hopefully help us to keep going throughout the challenge.”
