The theme of this year’s Ipswich Maritime Weekend Festival was ‘Pirates’

ABP colleagues at the Port of Ipswich celebrated another successful Maritime Festival Weekend on 18-19 August, as crowds of visitors flocked to the Ipswich Haven Marina and Old Customs House.

The theme for this year’s event was ‘Pirates’ and visitors were encouraged to get in the mood by wearing their best Pirate outfits and eye-patches. Spectators also enjoyed a visual feast of colours created by pirate crews, Georgian-era-style sailors and historical re-enactments on board ships.

Among the vessels taking part this year were The MT Kent, the Sailing Barge Victor, The Laura Moncur and the Orwell Lady, which offered trips to visitors.

Andrew Harston, ABP Short Sea Ports Director, said: “The Ipswich Maritime Festival is always a highlight in Suffolk’s summer calendar of events and we were pleased to once again play our part in making it a successful event.

“As we are one of the principal businesses on the Ipswich Waterfront, we were delighted to open Old Custom House to more than 3,500 visitors over the weekend and look forward to continuing to support Ipswich Borough Council so that they can run this festival for many more years to come. We are already looking forward to the next Maritime Festival in 2020."
