The new ABP engineering workshops at the Port of Cardiff

ABP South Wales has invested £400k in new engineering workshop facilities for employees at its Port of Cardiff.

The new state-of-the-art 1200 sqm workshop provides an increased amount of space for the engineering department to undertake servicing and maintenance of operational equipment used by stevedores to load and discharge customer vessels.

The workshops encompass new office space for the engineering operations, while providing new amenities for the electrical and fabrication/welding engineers that service the port estates. The building also incorporates a new, larger, mess room facility for the port’s team of Stevedores.

The ABP South Wales engineering team is responsible for maintaining and servicing all port equipment and infrastructure, from cargo handling machinery, lock gates and associated machinery, to the port’s outdoor lighting.

Construction work began in January 2018 and was completed in October 2018. The project was led by the internal civil engineering team with, input from the whole department.
