ABP sponsors Teignmouth Carnival fun

August 9, 2018

ABP has proudly sponsored the Teignmouth Carnival for the first time. The Carnival ran from 28 July to 4 August, providing hours of entertainment in the sun for the local community and tourists alike.

One of the Carnival highlights was the ‘Music Extravaganza’ on the final day, funded by ABP, which was headlined by local acts, including DJ Mark Thompson and the band Harbour, and saw over 1,000 people attending.

As well as supporting the Music Extravaganza, earlier in the week, ABP ran a competition at ‘The Den’ on the Monday, offering visitors the opportunity to win a sea wildlife tour around the Devon coast, by guessing the number of sunflower pellets held in a jar. After many entries throughout the day, the prize went to a family who were on a visit to Teignmouth. All proceeds from the competition will be donated to Devon Air Ambulance.

An information stand was also set up to showcase ABP’s South West ports of Teignmouth and Plymouth and how they operate day-to-day. It also explained how the ports work with and support local communities and wildlife.

Commenting on Carnival week, Councillor Jane Green, Mayor of Teignmouth, said: “We are proud that Teignmouth has a superb collection of businesses, which are vital to keep our town centre vibrant. The success of the carnival depends on the hard work of volunteers on the Teignmouth Carnival Committee and from kind donations from sponsors in order to deliver such a fantastic event.”

Alex Chinchen, ABP’s Divisional Port Manager, South West, said: “We were delighted to get involved in the Carnival this year, especially sponsoring such a huge day, and raising money for Devon Air Ambulance. The week has been a huge success, and we hope that by providing a stand at the event, we’ve made information about what we do more accessible for the people of Teignmouth.”

Despite changeable weather, the Carnival was extremely popular, involving all parts of the community and helping to provide support for local businesses, schools and charities.
