ABP’s network of twenty-one ports across the UK celebrated World Mental Health Day on 10 October by organising a series of initiatives to raise awareness around workplace wellbeing.
Throughout the day ABP organised a series of mental health and wellbeing webinars informing employees about the mental health tools it provides as well as mindfulness techniques.

Chloe Pasquall, Care first Service Manager, said: "We believe that the webinars we provided to ABP employees on World Mental Health Day provided employees with information that will be useful in promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace. As part of the sessions, employees were able to learn how to use our digital app, which provides exercises and activities to prevent stress and anxiety. Viewers were also able to complete a mindfulness activity at the end of the presentation.”

In an effort to raise mental health awareness among colleagues, ABP has also sent information packs to all employees, containing details on the freely available support and complementary services available to ABP employees as well as a few other items that may help with sleep, exercise and a good diet, which are the main key factors to maintaining good mental health.
Mike McCartain, ABP Director Maritime and Compliance OBE, said: “One of the elements of creating a great place to work consists of making sure that all our employees feel comfortable raising and tackling mental health issues at work.

“As the largest UK port operator, we are keen to spearhead the conversation surrounding mental health in the maritime sector and set a positive example for other companies in the industry.”
According to the NHS, one in four people in the UK is affected by mental illness, which highlights the importance of breaking down the stigma associated with mental health issues.
