ABP takes action following public feedback on Goole bridge closure
September 20, 2017
ABP has taken action following public feedback regarding the temporary closure of a major bridge in Goole at the end of this month.
The South Dock Bridge (A161) will be closed for maintenance from 6am Saturday 23rd September to 5am Monday 25th September and 6am Saturday 30th September to 5am Monday 2nd October. These works are essential and will maintain future reliability for road and vessel access to Goole.
The port operator recently held two public drop-in sessions and as a result it is pleased to confirm it will be providing extra security and a free shuttle service during the closure.
Chris Green, port manager for Goole and Hull, said: “We are fully aware that the long diversion will be disruptive to local people and businesses and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
“This is why the drop-in sessions were held and three key questions were asked around emergency services, bus service provision and security in the pedestrian access areas through the docks.
“The emergency services are fully aware of the planned road closure and will be providing effective cover throughout.
“To ensure that people can walk through the area safely, we will be providing security guards to patrol the public right of way through the port at night.
“Also we will be offering a free shuttle service, suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, on both Saturdays from 9am to 5pm running every hour. There will be two Sweyne Coaches starting from The Co-op in Old Goole and bus stop number 3 on North Street in Goole- the timetables are now up on those stops.”
