Major Goole bridge closes for essential maintenance

July 11, 2017

ABP will be carrying out essential safety maintenance on South Dock Road Bridge in Goole.
ABP in Goole owns and operates various road bridges in the town, and the South Dock Bridge on Bridge Street (A161) is due for essential maintenance to ensure it remains safe for public use. In order to carry out this work the company will need to close the bridge for a temporary period to ensure the work can be carried out safely.
To minimise disruption, work will take place over two weekends on 6am Saturday 23rd September to 5am Monday 25th September and 6am Saturday 30th September to 5am Monday 2nd October.
There will be a 30 mile diversion in place for vehicles. Pedestrians will have alternative access via South Street across the port onto Aire Street.
“We would like to apologise for the disruption this essential safety work on the bridge will cause.” said Chris Green, port manager for Goole & Hull.
“The closures don’t take place for another 11 weeks and we are deliberately giving plenty of warning to help the community to prepare for any disruption.
“A letter has been sent to 22,000 residents in Goole and the surrounding areas. In addition our project team will be hosting a public drop-in day at Tesco as we believe it’s important to listen to your queries.
“We have worked closely with the local authorities and the emergency services on a plan to ensure they can still operate.”
Any residents or businesses, who would like to talk to the project team about the plans for the closure, are invited to the Foyer of Tesco Superstore on Boothferry Road in Goole between 4pm and 6.30pm on Thursday, 20th July.
