A Knowsley community group that works with young disabled adults has been given an exclusive tour of the Port of Garston.

‘Your Voice, Your Choice’ is an alternative to the traditional day service for adults with a disability, learning difficulty or autism. The service works with individuals to develop their independence and provides opportunities for them to live life to the fullest.

Ellie Wissett, daughter of ABP Dock Master John, together with her friends from the group were given a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at how the port operates, even getting the opportunity to go on-board a dredger operated by ABP’s sister company UKD.

‘Your Voice, Your Choice’ was started by Jenny Day in October 2015, who said she felt people deserved more than what is currently on offer as they can also give so much more back.

Miss Day said: “We had an amazing day at the Port of Garston. We were treated like VIPs, were made to feel extremely welcome and given a fantastic opportunity to tour the port.”

John said: “My daughter has been involved with the ‘Your Voice, Your Choice’ group so I thought it would be a great opportunity to show her and the group what the ports does.

“Everyone had a great time looking around, and thanks to UKD, they were able to go on-board the dredger – they couldn’t get enough of the day!”
